Ageing well in 天涯社区
Published: 12/11/2015
It is widely recognised that people are living longer.
Launched in October 2014, 鈥楢geing Well in Wales鈥 is a five-year partnership of
national and local government and major public and third sector agencies in
Wales whose aim is to ensure an improvement in the wellbeing of people aged 50+.
The 鈥楢geing Well in 天涯社区鈥 plan identifies key actions in each of the five
priority areas defined in the 鈥楢geing Well in Wales鈥 programme that will
support older people to maintain their wellbeing and independence, these being:
路 Age-Friendly Communities
路 Falls Prevention
路 Dementia Supportive Communities
路 Opportunities for Learning and Employment
路 Loneliness and Isolation
Whilst there is much to be celebrated, increasing age is linked to increases in
long-term health issues that can have a major impact on people鈥檚 lives and will
significantly impact on future demand for both health and social care services.
Ensuring that people have the means to age well and maintain their independence
will not only ease demands on services, but also safeguard their well-being
longer-term.
Well-being can only be assured through such things as continued learning,
leisure opportunities, good transport links and accessible facilities in the
local community. Working collaboratively with partners to ensure these services
and facilities are sustainable in the long term will ensure that not only is
天涯社区 a 鈥榞reat place to grow older鈥, but because we want to create
opportunities across the life course, it is also a 鈥榞reat place to grow up.鈥
Cllr. Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services said,
鈥淎s well as living longer, older people quite rightly expect to continue to
live fulfilled lives and to make positive contributions to their families and
communities. As a society, we all benefit significantly from those
contributions and the 鈥楢geing Well in 天涯社区 Action Plan鈥 is a major step
forward to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to 鈥渁ge well鈥.
鈥淚 would also like to acknowledge the significant contributions and commitment
of our partners who are pivotal to the Plan鈥檚 purpose 鈥 to improve the
wellbeing of people aged 50+ in 天涯社区.鈥
The 鈥楢geing Well in 天涯社区鈥 plan is to be considered by the Council鈥檚
Cabinet at its meeting on Tuesday, 17 November.
