Speaking at the event, Councillor Ray Hughes, the Chair of Council said how
impressed he was with the enthusiasm and expertise which the volunteers have
displayed this year:
He said: 鈥淓ach year we see that the standards in the Best Kept Communities
Competition have increased dramatically. Whilst this years summer was not the
best it is still apparent that the competition entries were better than ever.
This must have been a real problem for our judges: Fred Gillmore, Les and Sue
Starling. The standard was so high, it was necessary for the accolades to be
shared: for instance, we had two equal first prizes in Section A. Three
Schools were also awarded Certificates of Merits by the Judges for their eco
gardens. Two Highly Commended Awards were also given by the Judges.
鈥淭he competition would not be possible without the generous support of our
sponsors: Airbus in the UK, Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, Grwp Cynefin,
Lindop Bros, Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK Limited and Warwick Chemicals.
鈥淭hank you to them, and also to our judges for the time and knowledge which
they contribute.鈥
