天涯社区 is promoting three free road safety courses for
residents of all ages in the county.
The Older Driver Programme gives practical driving assessments, advice and
information to qualified drivers aged 65 and over. It aims to keep older
drivers on the road, safer for longer whilst ensuring the safety of all other
road users. The driving assessment can last up to a maximum of two hours and is
carried out by specially trained Approved Driving Instructors.
Pass Plus Cymru is a scheme for drivers between the ages of 17-25 who live in
Wales. It provides recently qualified drivers with valuable additional driving
experience and information on how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic
situations they may not have encountered whilst learning to drive.
It is split into two parts, a classroom discussion forum and on road practical
training on different roads and weather conditions. The classroom session
covers guidance on mobile phone usage, drug and drink driving, and the
consequences of getting it wrong.
The third course Bikesafe is for motorcyclists and powered two wheeler riders
and aims to reduce casualties in this high risk group. The scheme is available
for residents and those who live outside the local area who regularly ride in
Wales.
Four BikeSafe workshops, four First Bike on the Scene courses and four
ScooterSafe sessions are planned.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet member for Environment said: I encourage
people to take advantage of this range of courses which are on offer which
will help improve road safety in our county. We hope they will encourage a
change in behaviour and road safety awareness for road users of all ages.
