An inspirational exhibition of paintings by North Wales artist Emma Jayne
Holmes will be on display at the upstairs gallery in Buckley Library throughout
July.
This is the fourth in the series of exhibitions, Art in the Library – Lliw yn y
Llyfrgell, which aims to support local artists, who may have never exhibited
before, by giving them a platform to showcase their work to the public.
Throughout the year the exhibition programme at ÌìÑÄÉçÇø’s Libraries will
include paintings by Angie Hoopert, Emma-Jayne Holmes and Clayton Langford,
drawings by Scott Bongo’s and photography by Ceridwen Barkley.
Emma is never happier than with a paintbrush in her hand and has been painting
for over two decades. She said ;I have always been creative, making and fixing
things but I find drawing a real challenge and painting a joy. I do need to
practice the drawing (the skeleton of the art work) in order to enjoy the
painting.
During University I did a lot of drawing and went out into the towns and
countryside to sketch. It was after I graduated that I really got to grips with
oil painting, spending time with another artist in their studio, learning the
skills and discipline. Since having a family in 2005, my picture painting has
taken a back seat, but a brush has been in my hand almost daily with a house to
renovate!
About two years ago I unwrapped my oil paints and turned the dining room into
my studio, I allocate a few hours a week to it, the time is growing and my
skills are returning.
Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, said:
I am proud that ÌìÑÄÉçÇøs Arts, Culture and Events team and
our Libraries service are continuing to support our local talent - showcasing
their work and supporting our artists as businesses.
Emma Jayne Holmes will also be participating in this year’s Helfa Gelf open
studios event with an opportunity to call in and visit her in her studio. More
