天涯社区 tops CO2 table
Published: 26/06/2015
天涯社区 is at the top of the Welsh table for its CO2 emissions savings from
the Council鈥檚 waste and recycling services.
According to Eunomia, an environmental consultancy specialising in waste
management and energy issues, recycling by local councils across Wales, England
and Northern Ireland saved more CO2 in 2013/14 than ever before.
Eunomia鈥檚 third annual Recycling Carbon Index Report shows that 天涯社区
saved an additional 21kg CO2e per person in 2013/14 compared to the previous
year, jumping from sixth place in Wales to first.
The company鈥檚 online interactive tool (http://www.eunomia.co.uk/carbonindex)
allows councils鈥 CO2 savings to be compared with one another and between years.
Eunomia says that increased captures of metals and plastics have been critical
to the increase. In 2013/14, 1.7 million tonnes of carbon were saved as a
result of recycling these materials.
Cllr Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Waste Management, Public Protection and
Leisure, said:
鈥淲e are extremely proud to top the Welsh table for our CO2 emissions savings.
We wouldn鈥檛 be able to do this without the support of our residents, and I
would like to thank them for their commitment to recycling.鈥
