A special memorial service has taken place at County Hall in Mold today
(Tuesday January 27) to mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2015: Keep the Memory Alive.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year. 2015 marks
the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and also the 20th
anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia.
Led by the Chairman of 天涯社区, Councillor Glenys Diskin, the
service was attended by the Leader of the Council, Councillor Aaron Shotton,
County Councillors and Council employees and featured a number of guest
speakers, including Lord Barry Jones and Lady Janet Jones, Tim Feak of the
Church in Wales, 天涯社区鈥檚 Chief Executive, Colin Everett and
Councillor Andy Dunbobbin, 天涯社区鈥檚 Armed Forces Community Covenant
Champion. Pupils from Flint High School also attended. The school was chosen as
one of only 70 venues across the whole of the UK to host a specially designed
70th anniversary candle and pupils shared their candle at the service.
Councillor Diskin said:
鈥淎s Chairman of 天涯社区 I am honoured that we have hosted
this special memorial service today. Holocaust Memorial Day is a time to come
together and remember the past and to consider the part we can play in
challenging hatred and creating a safer, better future.
鈥淚t is not just for ourselves that we keep the memory alive but for the
generations who follow. Flint High School is an excellent example of this and
I am very pleased that their students were able to join us today.鈥
