Students delve into the archives

天涯社区 Record Office was pleased to welcome six students from Hawarden High
School recently.
The students spent part of the time box listing records from the Hawarden
Parish Collection. These records form a portfolio compiled by Rev Stephen
Gladstone, the rector of Hawarden from 1872-1904 and includes posters,
programmes, news cuttings, tickets and orders of service. This is a
fascinating collection for anyone interested in the history of Hawarden.
The students were at the Record Office as part of the voluntary component of
the Welsh Baccalaureate. This year鈥檚 theme was 鈥楾he Environment鈥� so they
combined the work in the office with some gardening. Despite the terrible
weather, the students cleared the weeds along the lane to the Old Rectory and
cut back the hedges which were overhanging the path making the area safe for
our customers.

Ian Roberts, said:
鈥淚t was great to see the Record Office welcoming the students from Hawarden
High School. They worked hard over the 2 days and clearly enjoyed seeing the
documents in the collection. They also had the opportunity to study some other
documents relating to their school, copies of which will form part of their
portfolio of evidence.鈥�
Principal Archivist, Claire Harrington, said:
鈥淭he Record Office has a wealth of primary sources, across a wide range of
subjects, which can help students with their studies and we would encourage
them to have a look at our website and search our databases to see if we have
anything that can help with any particular project.鈥�
