Ahoy there! The Little Time Travellers strike again!
  		Published: 05/06/2017
天涯社区 Record Office in Hawarden welcomed 13 intrepid pirates to a Little
Time Travellers鈥 Pirate Party recently.
The pirates, including one baby, came along with their parents and enjoyed
discovering history through fun, pictures, stories, craft and music.
The Record Office has been running Little Time Travellers events for some time,
previous sessions include transport, farming, holidays and food. Claire
Harrington, Prinicpal Archivist for 天涯社区 explained how it
all started:
鈥淪ome colleagues went on a training course and came back enthused about getting
pre-school children interested in history. We welcome lots of schools to the
Record Office, usually older junior and secondary school children who are doing
history projects but we also wanted to spark the imaginations of our younger
children, to plant the seed at an early age. We obtained funding from Welsh
Government for materials to run these sessions and the children 鈥 and their
parents - seem to love them.鈥
Sue Copp, Archive Assistant and Chief Pirate for the day, said:
鈥淭oday is a fun look at the history of our area and the River Dee, using games,
singing songs, making peg doll pirates and treasure islands! We mix facts with
fun and we find, when they come back to see us with their school, they are keen
to share with us what they鈥檝e learnt in history at school.鈥
The sessions run every school holiday 鈥 so keep a look out for the next session
which will be in the summer holidays.
The Record Office houses 天涯社区鈥檚 unique archives which are available for
anyone with an interest in the past, whether it be their family history, local
history, school or college assignments or the history of their house.
