Success at national fitness challenge

Jade Jones Pavilion in Flint is heralding their success in a campaign to
support a local school.
The campaign, called 鈥淟et鈥檚 Move for a Better World鈥�, is a global campaign to
fight obesity and sedentary lifestyles. The goal was to engage the community to
come and 鈥渄onate鈥� their physical activity to help the local community and
embrace a healthier lifestyle. It ran from 13 - 31 March.
Out of 219 sites taking part around the UK, Flint finished in 26th position 鈥�
with 1,003,484 moves (as measured by the equipment), which is an fantastic
achievement given that they have 17 cardio machines in their gym, less that a
lot of other leisure centres taking part.

Bancroft, said:
鈥淭he teachers at Maes Hyfryd specialist school, Flint High School, Jade Jones
Pavilion workforce and gym members really came together to achieve this. It
was great for the community and everyone鈥檚 competitive streak showed throughout
the challenge!鈥�
Flint fitness suite supervisor, Alan Duppa, said:
鈥淭o hit over 1 million moves for a relatively small leisure centre is a massive
achievement. The main aim was to go for the 3 million and win Ysgol Maes Hyfryd
an Arke kit for their gym. Although we fell short, 1 million moves is such a
brilliant show of determination from all who took part. Not only have we
achieved something special, we have improved customers鈥� and workforce fitness
levels and made more people aware of the growing levels of obesity around the
world. I was so happy with effort made by all who took part. We are one of
only 26 centres that achieved the 1 million marker and have won a training day
which I鈥檓 hoping that staff at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd will attend. We also sold
t-shirts and bags which raised 拢200 for the school.鈥�
