天涯社区 Countryside Service Rangers, along with an army of volunteers, have
been Christmas tree planting on the dunes during the past month.
In December, the team made an appeal to local residents to recycle their
Christmas trees and contribute to the continued restoration of important sand
dune habitat.
Over 40 engineering students from Coleg Cambria worked with the Rangers and
their volunteers over three days during March to put in 250 trees and over 100
metres of fencing.
They repaired seven low spots in the frontal dunes on Talacre beach using the
trees and fencing which will now trap sand and allow the dunes to build and
vegetation re-establish.
Tim Johnson, Talacre Partnership Ranger, said:

鈥淚t was a really enjoyable project working with students who were happy to get
stuck in and make a difference to the environment. They worked so hard that we
even had time to do some extra jobs like repairing fencing for the natterjack
toads found on site.
鈥淗aving volunteers come out to help with conservation work makes a real
difference and allows us to do jobs that may not be possible without them and
we would urge any schools, colleges, community groups or businesses to get in
touch if they would like an active part in protecting our environment.鈥
