  		Dementia cafe opens in Saltney
  		Published: 07/03/2017
The latest caf茅 to support people living with dementia and their carers has
been officially opened in Saltney.
The caf茅 has been made possible through the support and partnership working of
NEWCIS, a non-profit organisation which supports carers in the community,
天涯社区, Cheshire West & Chester Council and the community
and residents of Saltney.
The caf茅, which will be open once a month, every 2nd Tuesday, from 1-3pm was
officially opened at the Douglas Place Community Centre on Woodall Avenue by
The Dementia Friendly Saltney Steering Group.
This venture has been created to remove the boundary line between 天涯社区
and Cheshire West and Chester, so people living with Dementia and their carers
can jointly access support and advice.
天涯社区s Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor
Christine Jones, said:
This is the seventh dementia caf茅 we have opened in 天涯社区. I鈥檓 proud of
the dedication of 天涯社区 staff and their partner
organisations who continue to work hard to ensure that we continue to raise
awareness and support people with dementia and their carers. To date, our
caf茅s have been a huge success and I am sure that this one in Saltney will be
no different.鈥
Cheshire West and Chester Councillor Cabinet member for Communities and
Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins, said: 鈥淲e are proud of the great work
taking place across the borough and beyond to inspire and enable dementia
friendly and inclusive communities, and by the commitment and enthusiasm of
everyone involved, including councils and partners, local organisations, groups
and communities.
鈥淲orking together with 天涯社区 Council we will continue to raise awareness
of dementia and help support the Saltney community to become more dementia
friendly to enable people living with dementia, their families and carers to
feel supported, less isolated and more involved in their local community.鈥
Councillor Veronica Gay, Chair of Dementia Friendly Saltney, said:
鈥淚 have wanted to help develop dementia caf茅 in Saltney. Many of the residents
in my ward who live with and support people who have been diagnosed with early
onset dementia approached me, as there was nowhere locally and they needed to
travel around 天涯社区 to get support.
鈥淚鈥檇 like to thank Ray Peters and his team of volunteers for hosting the memory
caf茅 at Douglas Place. I am delighted that this has now happened and very
proud that it is also being supported by Cheshire West and Chester, especially
as Saltney is so interlinked with and relies on services in Chester. This
fantastic community team effort has resulted in a great resource for people
living with dementia and their carers.鈥
Dementia Caf茅s provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for
people with dementia and their carers to socialise.
As well offering a range of fun and engaging activities, Dementia Caf茅s give
both carers and people with dementia a chance to get information and advice and
talk to others with similar problems.
For further information on the cafe please contact Luke Pickering-Jones on
