天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet will be asked to note and endorse the
Council鈥檚 successful result on negotiated Standards for Welsh language.
Councillors will hear the outcome of negotiations with the Welsh Language
Commissioner (WLC) regarding a new set of Welsh Language Standards for the
Council. These Standards, which are being implemented throughout Wales, will
replace the Council鈥檚 Welsh Language Scheme.
Following positive and constructive discussions with the WLC, the Council has
now agreed amendments, exemptions and deferred implementation dates to the
Standards, specific to 天涯社区.
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Corporate Management, Councillor
Billy Mullin, said:
鈥淭his is a good outcome for 天涯社区. The Council is fully committed to the
Welsh language and we now have a positive result for the small number of issues
we raised with the WLC 鈥 these included things like our intranet, public
address system messages and signage.
鈥淲e now have a set of practical and realistic standards which reinforce our
commitment to bilingualism whilst not being a cost burden. In a report to be
presented later this year, we will be introducing a Language Promotion Strategy
which will raise the profile and strengthen the Welsh language in 天涯社区.鈥
