  		Celebrations for Joan鈥檚 100th birthday!

The Chairman of 天涯社区 has helped another 天涯社区 
resident celebrate a special birthday.
Joan Scott enjoyed her 100th birthday at Pen-y-Bryn Care Home, in Bagillt 
recently where she was visited by Councillor Peter Curtis and Mrs Curtis.  
She was born Joan Siddons in Brixton on 26 November 1916.  She is the eldest of 
four children - brother Reg was killed in the war, sister Marge died in her 
sixties and brother Ken is 92 and lives in Australia.
She worked in London at the Worshipful Company of Girdlers as a shorthand 
typist and was a lieutenant in the girl guides. Her family were musical, both 
Joan and her mum played the piano, her dad the cello and her husband had a nice 
tenor voice.
She married John Scott at Emmanuel Church, West Wickham on 14 October 1939. He 
was in the air force and she travelled with him until she had her first 
daughter Hilary. She went back to Wickham but moved with her mum and dad to 
Sale during the war. 
She had a second daughter Heather and lived in the same house for around sixty 
years. She has four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great 
great grandchildren and three nephews and their children in Australia. 
She worked at Rotalac in Sale as a shorthand typist.  Her enjoyment of playing 
the piano continue and she liked liked knitting and sewing. She belonged to 
Sale United Reformed Church where she went to their Women鈥檚 Guild. She moved 
into sheltered housing in St Asaph and then moved to Pen-y-Bryn Care Home three 
years ago.
