Councillors are elected by people in their community to represent them and make decisions on their behalf. Being a Councillor is rewarding, challenging and enjoyable and you can change people鈥檚 lives for the better.听听

天涯社区鈥檚 Returning Officer, Neal Cockerton, said:

鈥淚t鈥檚 important that councillors represent all the different views of their community 鈥 that鈥檚 why we want to encourage people from diverse backgrounds to become a councillor.鈥

Local government needs more councillors who are under 40, female, disabled, LGBTQ+ and black or asian or from other minority groups and from a range of beliefs, cultures and personal circumstances. All councils have signed Diverse Council pledges ahead of the elections and are committed to encouraging and supporting more diverse people to stand for election.
