Consultation on reviewing the Council Tax Premium Scheme for Long Term Empty Properties and Second Homes in 天涯社区

Councils in Wales currently have discretionary powers to charge, or vary, a council tax premium of up to 100% above the standard rate of council tax on second homes and long-term empty properties.
The Council introduced a local premium scheme in 2017 and since then a council tax premium of 50% has been charged on second homes and long鈥搕erm empty properties in 天涯社区.聽
The Council is now consulting with the public as part of the process of reviewing the current premium scheme and level of premium.
The Council鈥檚 Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Assets, Councillor Billy Mullin, said:
鈥淭he discretion given to local authorities to charge a premium is intended to be a tool to help local authorities to bring long-term empty homes back into use to provide safe, secure and affordable homes and enhance the sustainability of local communities.
鈥淎s part of the process of the reviewing the scheme, we are committed to giving the wider public the opportunity to have their say on how any revised future council tax premium scheme should work.鈥
