Ministerial visit to local school

Published: 30/09/2021

The Minister for Education and Welsh Language, Jeremy Miles AS visited Ysgol Penyffordd recently.

The multi-million pound school opened its doors to pupils in September 2019.听

The scheme was funded by both Welsh Government and 天涯社区 as part of the Welsh Government鈥檚 21st Century Schools and Education Programme which also includes the Holywell Learning Campus and the modernisation and improvement works at Connah鈥檚 Quay High School.听

The purpose built school is a 3-11 English medium community primary school on the Abbotts Lane site and includes classrooms to accommodate nursery, foundation phase and key stage 1 and 2 for 315 pupils as well as a hall and studio.听听

It amalgamated the all-through 3-11 English medium community primary school on the Abbotts Lane site, together with the demolition of the existing infant school and the construction of improved and increased staff and visitor car parking with the dedicated drop off zone for parents and carers.

The Minster for Education and Welsh Language said:

"I was really pleased to be able to visit Ysgol Penyffordd. The school has great facilities and I鈥檓 pleased we could support the development of the building with 拢7 million from our 21st Century Schools and Colleges Programme.听

鈥淚鈥檓 sure the school will provide a great environment for the children of Penyffordd to flourish for years to come.

鈥淭hanks to everyone at the school for the warm welcome!鈥

天涯社区鈥檚 Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor Ian Roberts, said:

鈥淚鈥檓 honoured to be able to show the Minister this wonderful state-of-the-art primary school - another milestone in the provision of the 21st Century Schools programme in 天涯社区.听 This investment provides a wonderful modern facility for children, young people and the wider community and provides a new inspirational learning experience for primary school children.鈥

Head teacher,听Jayne Mulvey, said:

鈥淎fter being on two sites since we amalgamated several years ago, it is so lovely that we now have all the children of Ysgol Penyffordd on one site in our fantastic new state of the art school.听

鈥淒espite the challenges COVID has thrown at all schools, the children have settled fantastically well into their new surroundings as we make the most of all of our new facilities.听

鈥淭hanks to everyone at Wynne Construction, 天涯社区 and Welsh Government for all of their help, support and advice from the early planning stages to the final completion. We are extremely pleased and happy with our new school and being able to share this with the villagers of Penyffordd and their children.鈥澨
