天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet will be asked to note the outcomes of pupil
assessments across all key stages when it meets on Tuesday 18 October.
Improvements can be noted in all key stages. Progress has been particularly
encouraging in primary education and at Key Stage 3. The Council acknowledges
the challenges to improve further.
Here is an overview of the results, in Key Stages:
Foundation Phase 鈥 the indicator for this stage (when a pupil achieves outcome
5 or above) was 86.9%. Although this was a drop of 0.1% from the previous
year, since 2014 it has increased by 2.4%. 天涯社区 was second out of all
six North Wales authorities
Key Stage 2 鈥 天涯社区鈥檚 results at this stage are extremely positive, with a
2.2% increase over 2015 to 90.1%, making 天涯社区 the best performing council
at this stage in North Wales on the core subject indicator.
Key Stage 3 鈥 again, 天涯社区 performed well at this stage, with performance
rated at 88.4% - an increase of 1.3% over the previous year. This shows a year
on year improvement since 2014 of 2.1% which reflects well on the work being
done in our secondary schools to improve learner outcomes.
Key Stage 4 (GCSE) 鈥 results this year improved by 0.7% on 2015 to 61.3%, on
the key indicator putting 天涯社区 second in the region. These results are
based on external examinations and at this stage are only provisional.
Key Stage 5 (A level) 鈥 again, this data is provisional and shows that the
number of pupils attaining 2 A levels increased by 1.0% to 98.1%, although the
future focus will be to increase the percentage of high A level grades (C and
above).
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor
Chris Bithell, said:
鈥淭here is no room for complacency and we are well aware that support is needed
to help some schools refine their tracking systems to close the gap between
projected and final performance. We remain committed to improving performance
to ensure that our young people get the best possible start in life.
鈥溙煅纳缜檚 education service has many strengths and I am pleased to say that
there has been considerable drive and determination to address issues and to
further improve performance and outcomes for our learners.
鈥淭he Council is carrying out a programme of school modernisation and its
commitment to this programme remains strong. It wants to provide the best
possible opportunities for learners to achieve their full potential in schools
that are fit for purpose and deliver first-class education in the 21st
Century.鈥
