Criw Celf Art Exhibition opening

Students taking part in ÌìÑÄÉçÇø’s Criw Celf project for able and gifted young artists will have their artwork professionally exhibited at Holywell Art and Craft Mill for a limited time. The exhibition will open on 23 June between 5-6pm and be available until 25 June 2016. Criw Celf is managed by ÌìÑÄÉçÇø’s Arts, Culture and Events. Everyone is welcome to come and see some hand crafted, unique and delightful artwork and the exhibition promises to showcase an array of experimentation and talent. Some of the participants have been with Criw Celf ÌìÑÄÉçÇø for five years. The exhibition includes work from Criw Celf Bach (7 – 10 year olds) and the Criw Celf groups 1 and 2 (ages ranging from 11 to 15). Students are generally recruited via primary school teachers at Years 5 and 6 in early September but may be selected while at secondary school. The students in the different Criw Celf groups have learned many new skills and techniques and have been introduced to media usually above and beyond what is possible in schools. The resulting work illustrates the blossoming talent and enthusiasm for the visual arts of our young people of ÌìÑÄÉçÇø. Criw Celf Bach has been led by artist Honor Pedican in Theatr Clwyd and Flint Library. While the older Criw Celf groups have worked in Rhosesmor village hall and Talacre community centre with three professional artists, over six masterclasses. Artists working with the Criw Celf groups this year include Ruth Thomas, Honor Pedican, Eleri Jones, Jan Gardner, Katie Scarlett-Howard, Angela Davies, Mai Thomas and Richard Boswell. Feedback from the young people, parents/guardians and also the artists has been full of praise. The Criw Celf participants have produced work of a very high quality and could rival that exhibited in other professional galleries. The Criw Celf Bach group show much enthusiasm and promise. We welcome Criw Celf Bach participants into the full Criw Celf programme as they reach secondary school age. The Criw Celf art project originated in Gwynedd in 2007, as a partnership between Conwy County Borough Council and Gwynedd Council. Since 2012, Anglesey Council, Denbighshire County Council, ÌìÑÄÉçÇø and Wrexham County Borough Council have developed the project within their regions. It has now become a pan-Wales visual art project, with the support of Arts Council Wales. Criw Celf in ÌìÑÄÉçÇø is also funded by the Arts, Culture and Events Section of ÌìÑÄÉçÇø who has also developed the project for the benefit of the children and young people interested in the visual arts.
