  		Published: 17/03/2016
天涯社区 held its first Apprentice Fair this week as part of
National Apprenticeship week.
A total of 23 businesses from 天涯社区 and beyond had exhibition stands at
this inaugural event and over 500 pupils from many 天涯社区 High Schools had
the opportunity to look around the exhibition. The Fair was held in two
sessions, morning and afternoon, to allow as many young people to attend as
possible.
Cllr Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, who opened both
sessions of the Fair, said:
鈥淭his Apprentice Fair, has been a real chance for our high school students to
look to the future and discuss apprenticeship options with a potential
employer. They鈥檝e also had a fantastic opportunity to hear first-hand from
Alwen Williams about the BT approach to apprenticeships as well as hearing
about Jessica Ashton鈥檚 personal account as a BT apprentice.鈥
Alwen Williams, Director of BT Wales, started with BT straight from school and
now heads up the BT organisation in Wales. Jessica is in her second year of an
Advanced apprenticeship. She joined BT after completing a foundation degree.
The event, at Theatr Clwyd in Mold, offered live demonstrations and interactive
sessions covering a wide variety of professions including the fire service,
beauty therapy and the construction industry. In addition, attendees had the
opportunity to 鈥淭ry a Trade鈥 and got advice on CV writing.
