Solar panels considered

天涯社区s Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee will
next week consider the development of two solar energy (Photo Voltaic) sites at
Brookhill and Standard Landfill sites in Buckley, prior to the proposal being
presented to the Councils Cabinet later this month,
The two sites will generate approximately 1200 MWh of electrical energy a year,
equivalent to that required to power around 240 homes and saving nearly 13,500
tonnes of carbon dioxide during the lifetime of the schemes. It is anticipated
that much of the energy generated will be used directly by the County Council
at its nearby Alltami depot, significantly reducing both the Councils energy
costs and its own carbon footprint..
Cllr Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Environment,
said:
I am delighted to be taking this proposal to Cabinet as it demonstrates the
Countys determination to save money in an environmentally responsible and
productive way and it shows our commitment to both the Councils cost and
carbon reduction targets.
Cllr Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Waste Strategy and Public Protection, said:
The proposals make excellent use of the closed landfill sites and extend the
generating life of the existing gas turbines, which generate electricity from
the waste gases produced at the site as well as securing and enhancing the
environmental surroundings of the two sites well into the future.
