Council Tax Premium Scheme

From April 2017, councils in Wales will have the discretion to charge up to a
100% council tax premium on long term empty properties and second homes.
The introduction of a premium is designed to encourage owners to bring these
properties back into full use to address local housing need, support the
increase of affordable housing for purchase or let and enhance the appearance
of local communities.
天涯社区 is currently considering the introduction a 50%
Council Tax premium on second homes and for long term empty properties that
have been left empty for a period of 12 months or more. Residents can be
assured of safeguards designed to help those who may be finding it difficult to
bring properties back into use. For example, owners may be entitled to a 12
month exemption from the premium if their property is being marketed for sale
or let.
The Council is in the process of approving the scheme and the views of
residents is an important part of the decision making process.
Councillor Aaron Shotton, Leader of the Council said:The introduction of this
scheme goes some way to ensure the local taxation system is used to encourage
owners to bring empty properties back into use and to increase the supply of
housing in our communities. We currently have around 888 long term empty homes
so it鈥檚 important to get feedback from residents and communities. I would
encourage residents to comment on our proposals by 26 February 2016.
