Funding for new and improved childcare facilities in 天涯社区

Published: 11/02/2021

天涯社区 has been awarded 拢4,890,000 by Welsh Government (WG) for the Childcare Offer Capital Grant Schemes and 拢500,000, for small capital grant schemes.听

The schemes allow for modular building or refurbishment of premises which will create an indoor and outdoor environment appropriate for children ages 3-4, other children, parents, staff and other community users which will be calm, uplifting, safe and attractive.听听

This funding is the result of a business case submitted by officers from the Early Years and Family Support Service working with Education colleagues and the wider childcare sector.听

天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor Christine Jones, said:

鈥淧arents told us that ideally they want to be able to drop their children off and pick them up from the same site and access a seamless package of childcare.

鈥淭he primary purpose of the 天涯社区 programme is therefore to facilitate and support the co-location of the Foundation Phase and childcare provision wherever possible.鈥

天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor Ian Roberts, said:

鈥淭his is a significant amount of funding for 天涯社区 and will benefit many working parents in need of pre-school childcare and offer children modern facilities in which to play, learn and develop.

鈥淪ocial services colleagues have worked in full partnership with education officers on this crucial scheme and I fully support this excellent programme which will provide first class child care facilities for many children in the county.鈥

There are currently ten primary school sites that will benefit from this funding.听 These are:

鈥 Ysgol Derwen in Kinnerton

鈥 Westwood School in Buckley

鈥 Ysgol y Escob in Caerwys

鈥 Ysgol Croes Atti in Shotton

鈥 Ysgol Merllyn in Bagillt

鈥 Ysgol Glan Aber in Bagillt

鈥 Ysgol Bro Carmel in Carmel

鈥 Ysgol Maes y Felin in Holywell

鈥 Ysgol Sychdyn听

鈥 Ysgol y Llan in Whitford

In the future we hope to be able to offer further schemes, subject to WG funding.

Bodelwyddan based Wynne Construction won the contract to carry out this work.听 It is hoped that construction will start in the next few months, with a finish date by March 2022.
