Care Inspectorate Wales Review 2018/19

The Council鈥檚 Cabinet will be asked to note the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) assessment of the authority鈥檚 performance during the 2018/19 and the CIW鈥檚 Performance Review Plan for 2019-20 at its meeting on 22 October.
The CIW write and publish an annual letter for local authorities which provides feedback on inspections undertaken during the year and provides the main CIW performance evaluation for Social Services.
This year鈥檚 CIW letter highlights many strengths including:
路听听听听听听 the Senior Management Team are well sighted on strengths and areas of improvement and the authority has a positive regional partnership approach and that there was evidence of timely and proportionate responses to adult safeguarding.
路听听听听听听 work has been undertaken to improve the co-ordinated response to adult听safeguarding referrals through the Single Point of Access and then on to听the Safeguarding Unit.
路听听听听听听 the establishment of the Early Help Hub in Children鈥檚 Services and the involvement of care experienced children in the development of services
路听听听听听听 good partnership working between Adult Service Team and听the Safeguarding Unit and strong partnership working with education,听transport, and leisure and how all services work together to benefit the听individual.
The letter also acknowledged a number of challenges faced by Social Services such as 听the recruitment of foster carers but has developed strategies to address these issues.
