Pathway into Catering

天涯社区 Communities For Work Plus has recently run another successful 鈥淧athway鈥� course to give local people the opportunity to get into the catering business.

The course involved accredited training on a variety of subjects including food safety, emergency first aid at work, health and safety and a practical cookery session.

天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Derek Butler, said:

鈥淭his is another great opportunity for local people to gain experience and skills which will help them find work in the catering business.听 It鈥檚 great example of partnership working between 天涯社区 and Can Cook.听 Not only have the participants gained valuable qualifications, they also have the opportunity to take advantage of any work experience opportunities on offer.鈥�

One participant, Paul Vaughan Williams, said:

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a fantastic week.听 We鈥檝e gained useful qualitications and the trainers have been very approachable and helpful and there鈥檚 a great atmosphere in the group, we鈥檙e all very supportive of each other.听 Communities for Work Plus is an amazing team 鈥� ace, in fact!听 I will definitely look to go on more courses.鈥�

Communities For Work Plus is a Welsh Government programme providing one-to-one mentoring and advice to help you into employment.

Can Cook is a social enterprise based in Liverpool which was set up in 2007 as a food听organisation working with people living in South Liverpool who didn鈥檛 have basic cookery skills.听

天涯社区 works in partnership with Can Cook to deliver the successful 鈥淪hare Your Lunch鈥� programme which will run for a second year.听 This year, the programme will provide free lunches over the six week summer holiday period to 27 play schemes throughout 天涯社区.听
