Business rates 鈥 High Street and retail rate relief scheme
Published: 14/03/2019
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet has adopted the Welsh Government鈥檚 High Street Rates Relief scheme for 2019/20 which will provide additional business rate relief to eligible retailers over the next year.
This welcome packing of additional funding from Welsh Government - 拢23.6m across Wales - continues and expands the High Street Rates Relief Scheme to eligible ratepayers for 2019-20. This will benefit local businesses by affording more of them a larger percentage of rate relief.
The enhanced scheme, fully funded by Welsh Government, will provide up to 拢2,500 towards business rates bills for retail properties with a rateable value of up to 拢50,000.聽 The scope has also been extended to provide relief to all retailers operating across the County, including for the first time, retail parks, out-of-town shopping centres and industrial estates.
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Assets, Councillor Billy Mullin, said:
鈥淲e are very pleased to be able to provide this support to help meet the needs of local shops, restaurants, cafes and licensed premises. The Council works in partnership with Welsh Government to offer these savings, which help boost our local economy.
鈥淭his scheme goes significantly further than the 2018/19 scheme which primarily focused on providing targeted rate relief of up to 拢750 to retailers who operated in town centres.聽 Some businesses will now be eligible for an additional 拢1,750 of rate relief which equates to a 233% increase in relief in certain cases.鈥
Eligible businesses will be able to apply online on the Council鈥檚 website.
