Council鈥檚 response to Welsh Government White Paper
Published: 18/03/2019
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet听has approved the response to the Welsh Government consultation document 鈥業mproving Public Transport鈥.
The consultation, issued in December, seeks views on proposals for reforming the planning and delivery of local bus services in Wales, together with the licensing of taxis and other private hire vehicles.
The Leader of 天涯社区, Councillor Aaron Shotton, who also chairs the North Wales Economic Ambition Board, said:
鈥淚 would urge the Welsh Government to support the formation of a Regional Transport Body.听 Transport services are not influenced by county boundaries, but by end destinations.听 A joined up and integrated service is therefore critical, if a sustainable and affordable public transport system is to become a reality across our region.鈥
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transportation, Councillor Carolyn Thomas, said:
鈥淭hese proposals were reviewed by our Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee in February.听 There was general agreement for the proposals, with some exceptions.听 Full details of the all comments made have been incorporated into the Council鈥檚 formal response.鈥
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Planning and Public Protection, Councillor Chris Bithell, said:
鈥淧roposals 7 鈥 10 refer directly to taxi licensing and they were discussed by the Licensing Committee in February, with all comments being incorporated into the Council鈥檚 response.听 Regarding number 10, the committee felt that more detail was required to show how a Joint Transport Authority would carry out the licensing function and that it was difficult to answer the question.鈥
The ten proposals and the Council鈥檚 responses can be found at Appendix A of the report on the Council鈥檚 website.
The closing date for responses to the consultation is 27 March.
