Your views sought on local toilet strategy for 天涯社区
Published: 06/02/2019
天涯社区 is seeking your views on a strategy for public toilets in the County.
By law, Councils do not have to provide and maintain public toilets directly. They must, however, take a strategic view on how facilities can be provided and accessed, taking account of such things as location, accessibility, facilities, frequency of use and quality of existing sites, as well as determining whether additional or fewer sites are required by their local population.
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transportation, Councillor Carolyn Thomas, said:
鈥淪ince 2012, the Council has carried out two reviews of toilet provision across the County. These reviews highlighted that isolated facilities regularly attract antisocial behaviour, which puts people off using them. As a result, we adopted the approach of promoting the use of existing toilets in Council buildings such as libraries and Connects Centres, which people feel more confident and comfortable using. The council has been tasked by Welsh Government to do a strategy but there is no extra funding for increased provision.鈥
