Management of wildflower sites adapted in response to prolonged hot weather

Published: 22/07/2026

天涯社区 is continuing its annual monitoring and management of wildflower sites across the county. These areas are normally cut and collected from July onwards, with work continuing into August, September and October once wildflowers have finished flowering and setting seed.

This year鈥檚 extreme weather has had a significant impact on our wildflower habitats. Many species have seeded much earlier than usual, while others have unfortunately died back before they were able to set seed. With forecasts indicating continued hot and dry conditions, we are adjusting our management approach for the sites and the wider community.

As a result, wildflower areas on our road verges will be cut and collected earlier than usual throughout July and August. This decision supports the long-term health of our wildflower sites by removing vegetation that has already completed its lifecycle, while also responding to concerns about increased fire risk during prolonged dry weather.

We remain committed to maintaining and enhancing biodiversity across 天涯社区, and thank residents for their understanding as we adapt our management in response to this year鈥檚 exceptional conditions.
