Garden Waste Collections to Be Expanded from Next Winter
Published: 09/12/2025

Garden waste collections across 天涯社区 will be extended over the winter months from December 2026 onwards, if the change is approved by the council鈥檚 cabinet.
Under the plans, households subscribing to the service will have their brown bins collected once per month during December, January and February. There will be no change to the current fortnightly collections between March and November.
Cabinet will meet next week to vote on the proposals, which were discussed by the council鈥檚 Economy and Environment Scrutiny Committee today.
The planned year-round service will help residents better manage their winter garden waste, reducing the need to dispose of things like fallen leaves and hedge cuttings in black bins with non-recyclable waste.
The report to cabinet proposes an annual fee of 拢38 for garden waste collections for 2026/27, with the removal of the reduced 拢35 fee for those who sign up online or by March 1. The charge was last increased in 2024.
Councillor Glyn Banks, Cabinet Member for Waste and Transportation, said: 鈥淚鈥檓 pleased to put forward this plan to extend collections over the winter months for the first time.
鈥淭his will help residents to manage their garden waste all year round, and prevent it ending up in black bins over the winter.
鈥淭he new charge of 拢38 represents only a small increase for those who previously took advantage of the cheaper early bird and online rate.
鈥淭his change will allow us to provide the expanded year-round service while keeping costs as low as possible for our residents.鈥
Cabinet will consider the recommendations next Tuesday, December 16.
