Community spirit on display as 鈥楤ikes in Bloom鈥 brightens in Buckley town centre
Published: 10/09/2025
A grant funding scheme which provides opportunities for local organisations to apply for up to 拢10,000 to deliver activities and events in town centres across 天涯社区 is proving to be successful.
Already,听 50 per cent of the funding available for 2025-26 which has been secured through the UK Government鈥檚 Shared Prosperity Funds has been allocated to a variety of exciting community-led initiatives. Among the standout successes so far, is the 鈥楤ikes in Bloom鈥 project, delivered by Refurbs Buckley. The event has brought creativity, collaboration and colour to the heart of Buckley town centre.
From 11-16 August 2025, local residents, businesses, and community groups came together to transform repurposed bicycles into stunning floral displays. Through a series of public workshops, local people worked side by side to give old bikes new life as vibrant pieces of street art, showcasing Buckley鈥檚 community spirit and sustainable values.
The week-long display culminated in a lively Summer Market on Saturday, August 16, hosted at Refurbs Buckley, where the community gathered to celebrate the project鈥檚 success and enjoy local stalls, food, and entertainment.
鈥淏ikes in Bloom has been a brilliant example of what the Activities and Events Grant is all about 鈥 encouraging local creativity and bringing people together to make our towns more vibrant places to visit,鈥 said Councillor Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment and Climate. 鈥淚t has been inspiring to see the results of what grant funding can do for a town centre in bringing it alive with such a unique project.鈥
The Activities and Events Grant scheme supports projects that bring communities together, add vibrancy to our towns, promote well-being, and enhance public spaces. The scheme is being administered by 天涯社区鈥檚 Enterprise and Regeneration Service as part of its delivery of the 2025-26 Town Centre Investment Programme.
The grant scheme remains open to new applicants while funds are available. More information is available here听or email regeneration@flintshire.gov.uk
