Over the last 12 months, Community Focused Schools have been working with both special schools in 天涯社区 to facilitate activities for families with children who have complex needs. Starting in February half term, working with Gwella and other providers, activities have taken place at Flint & Deeside Leisure and Ty Calon.

So far there have been 13 days of activities provided offering soft play, bowling, sensory play, swimming, multi-sports, inflatable, ice skating, forest school, bush craft, theatre and a disco.

In total 121 families have taken part in 880 separate sessions, with comments from parents; 鈥淎 safe environment for our children to play鈥, 鈥淢uch needed routine鈥, 鈥淏est Half Term鈥, 鈥淲e can鈥檛 wait till the next half term activities鈥, 鈥淣ot feeling judged but feeling supported鈥, 鈥Not only is it beneficial for the child but to us parents too鈥

鈥淵ou and the team did a fantastic job. As there are no holiday clubs that cater for children with ALN these activities provide a huge opportunity for enjoyment and stimulation in a different environment that caters for the children's needs. This should be a permanent offering with adequate funding secured.鈥

Cllr Mared Eastwood, Cabinet Member for Education, Welsh Language, Culture and Leisure said

It is fantastic that, working in partnership with Gwella, this wide range of activities has been made available to children and young people who need additional support and that they have enjoyed participating so much. This has been a great success, made possible by Community Focused Schools grant funding from Welsh Government.
