Pupils take part in ground breaking ceremony
Published: 01/05/2018
Pupils at Ysgol Penyffordd were excited to be part of the official turf-cutting
ceremony which took place recently at the site of their new school.
天涯社区 appointed local firm Wynne Construction, based at
Bodelwyddan, to build this new multi-million pound 21st Century primary school
facility. The scheme is funded by both Welsh Government and 天涯社区 County
Council as part of the Welsh Government鈥檚 21st Century Schools and Education
Programme. It will amalgamate the all-through 3-11 English medium community
primary school on the Abbotts Lane site, together with the demolition of the
existing infants school and the construction of improved and increased staff
and visitor car parking with the dedicated drop off zone for parents and
carers.
The new purpose built school will include classrooms to accommodate nursery,
foundation phase and key stage 1 and 2 for 315 pupils as well as a hall and
studio. It will retain the existing sports grassed area.
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor
Ian Roberts, said:
鈥淭his is another milestone in the provision of the 21st Century Schools
programme in 天涯社区. This investment of almost 拢7 million will provide a
wonderful modern facility for children, young people and the wider community
and will provide a new inspirational learning experience for primary school
children.鈥
Cabinet Secretary for Education Kirsty Williams said:
鈥淚t鈥檚 great to see that work is now beginning on the new Ysgol Penyffordd. The
new school will provide excellent facilities for staff, pupils and the wider
community. It鈥檚 one of the latest projects to start as part of our 21st
Century Schools and Education Programme and I look forward to seeing the work
progress.鈥
Chris Wynne, Managing Director of Wynne Construction said:
鈥淲e are delighted to have been selected as the contractor for this exciting new
project with 天涯社区. Now that the pupils have helped us
start the project, we look forward to arranging site visits during
construction, for them to see from inside how their new school is growing.
We鈥檒l also be providing employment and training for local people, to make sure
that the benefits from this big investment are spread as widely as possible.鈥
This project follows the successful completion of Holywell Learning Campus and
Deeside 6th Form College and the current modernisation improvements taking
place at Connah鈥檚 Quay High School and is due to be completed during the summer
of 2019.
