  		天涯社区 in Business supports apprentices

天涯社区 in Business has partnered with Picture House Films to produce a
short information film to show the benefits of apprenticeships.
天涯社区 in Business recognises how important an experienced workforce is to
a successful business. They also appreciate the difficulty of recruiting and
retaining local people with the necessary skills.

Through 天涯社区 in Business, the Council is supporting local businesses to
meet this skills gap and help grow the local economy by recruiting apprentices.
Councillor Derek Butler, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, fully
supports the apprenticeship route and said:
鈥淭here are lots of great examples in this film showing career successes which
started with an apprenticeship. I would like to see more apprenticeships
available in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths fields and young
people choosing this route as an alternative to full-time further education.
鈥淣ot only does this benefit the apprentice, who can earn a lot of money while
learning, but it helps the business to train and develop individuals in the
right set of skills. It also gives the apprentices opportunities to further
their careers which may not have been open to them through full-time education
so early on in their careers.鈥
Matt Booth, UK Manufacturing Lead at Electroimpact UK said:
鈥淲e were really happy to be asked to be involved with this short film,
Electroimpact UK has seen the benefits first hand of what the apprenticeship
scheme does not only for the company but how it massively benefits the
individual apprentices.鈥

The learning element of an apprenticeship ranges from Level 1 right through to
a master鈥檚 degree, so for many it can offer a really positive alternative to
full-time study. The opportunities are endless and include Science,
Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers - an apprenticeship allows
qualifications and experience to be gained at the same time.

Working with local businesses, including Toyota, DRB Group, Anwyl Construction,
Electroimpact and Picture House Films, the Council has produced this short film
to highlight the benefits of taking the apprenticeship route to achieve career
goals.
This film will be circulated as widely as possible to include businesses,
schools and colleges in the local area. The intention is to reach those that
are in the early stages of planning their careers and need to think about an
apprenticeship as a serious option or those that are perhaps looking for a
career change. The film can be found via this link https://vimeo.com/232638543
