School Nostalgia Day success

Published: 26/10/2017

A successful event was held at 天涯社区 Record Office in Hawarden recently. Local people came along to the School Nostalgia Day and brought their old school photographs. Some were donated and some were scanned and returned to their owners which resulted in a great increase in the number of school photographs held in the archive. On the day, there was an exhibition of school photographs, a display of school log books and a 1950s 11 plus exam with a prize for the winner. 天涯社区鈥檚 Principal Archivist, Claire Harrington, said: 鈥淲e were delighted by the turn out and the positive comments. We do have a large collection of school photographs but there are some gaps, which is why we held this event. We had over 20 accessions on the day and have had more since - the more photographs we have, the better the collection will be for future generations to enjoy.鈥 If you weren鈥檛 able to come on the day but would still like to add your school photographs to the collection, please ring 01244 532364 and make an appointment to come in. 天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Education and Youth, Councillor Ian Roberts, said: 鈥淭his was a great event and I would encourage anyone who has some old school photos to bring them in. The Record Office has a scanning facility if you want to keep your original photographs. The gaps in the collection are mostly in the Deeside area (Sealand, Queensferry, Shotton and Connah鈥檚 Quay) so any school photographs of those areas would be very welcome.鈥 Photograph shows the winners of the 11 plus exam, Hilary Davies & Jill Jones who win an hour鈥檚 free research
