Successful screening of an old favourite

A screening of a favourite old movie was enjoyed at Flint Cinema recently
鈥淪inging in the Rain鈥 was the second time the Flint Dementia Friendly
Communities Steering Group had invited people to the cinema.
Flint Cinema has recently been accredited by the group for the action they are
taking to put on these dementia friendly screenings.
The event was open to all but mainly welcomed the memory caf茅 attendees in
天涯社区 and people living with dementia from Flint and local care homes.
Attendees enjoyed a classic, old-fashioned cinema experience: usherettes taking
people to their seats with torches, selling popcorn from the classic trays, an
interval and ice cream. They also enjoyed a sing along the screening was
supported, quieter than usual and well-lit. Many people were reminiscing about
the cinema and when they last visited it.
天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor
Christine Jones, said:
鈥淭hese events offer a wonderful experience for people with dementia and their
carers and further enhances all the good work that is being done in 天涯社区
to help support them.鈥
Some of the comments after the event included:
鈥淲hat a fabulous afternoon! Popcorn, singing, a bit of armchair tap dancing! I
love the mixture of comfortable seats and sofas, all round a wonderful
afternoon shared by all, thank you to the other steering committee members for
making this happen.鈥
鈥淲onderful afternoon....Im still talking about it! Thank you for the
invite.....were all looking forward to the next movie afternoon鈥.
Next showing is Friday, 1 December when there will be a showing of 鈥淲hite
Christmas鈥 at 1pm.
