天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet will be asked to approve development of
more Council homes when it next meets later in July.

They will be asked to approve the development of nine new Council homes on the
site of the former Melrose Centre in Shotton which is an agreed site for
inclusion within the Council鈥檚 flagship Strategic Housing and Regeneration
Programme (SHARP). SHARP has already provided new Council homes in Connah鈥檚
Quay and Flint, with others being built in Mold, Leeswood and Connah鈥檚 Quay.

Cabinet will also be asked to approve prudential borrowing of 拢1,191,092 to
fund this development.

天涯社区鈥檚 Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Bernie
Attridge, said:

鈥淭he redevelopment of the former Melrose Resource Centre is a strategic
priority for the Council. The building had become a target for vandalism and
anti-social behaviour after it closed, so it was demolished earlier this year.
We want to re-develop the site by building five 2-bed houses and four 1 and 2
bed apartments.

鈥淚鈥檓 really pleased that the Council is making full use of its available
borrowing to build as many Council homes as possible and that we are
proactively looking for further borrowing approval from Welsh Government so we
can do even more.鈥
