All customers who subscribe to the service will receive a new yellow sticker for their bin. The current RFID sticker will no longer be valid and will not be used for collections during the new service period.

Once a resident has successfully subscribed, they will receive a sticker pack with instructions within 10 days. Residents are asked to place the new yellow sticker on their garden waste bin as instructed to ensure their bin continues to be collected.

Alongside the usual fortnightly collections for nine months of the year, the service will now include monthly collections in December 2026, January 2027 and February 2027.

Brown bin collections will only be listed on 'check your bin day' for those residents who have paid and subscribed to garden waste collections.

If you have subscribed to the 2026/27 garden waste service but haven’t yet received your new yellow sticker, please don’t worry.

As long as your subscription as active, we will continue to collect your garden waste while the new stickers are being issued. There is no need to contact us.

What happens to my Garden Waste?

天涯社区 collect Garden Waste from all over the county and turn it into a super rich soil conditioning product. Approximately 12,000 tons of green waste from 天涯社区's households, Household Recycling Centres (HRCs), roadsides, parks, and gardens, is collected every year.

It's taken to the Council's own composting site in Greenfield. Only vegetation such as grass, branches, and leaves can be taken to the site, items such as soil, cardboard or plastic cannot be accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions

The sticker I received in 2023, 2024 or 2025 is still on my bin.

If you are able to, remove any old stickers from your brown bin.

Ensure that the new yellow sticker is clearly visible on the front of your brown bin.

How often is garden waste collected?

The 2026 garden waste collection service will commence on Monday 2 March 2026.

Collections will take place fortnightly from March 2026 until and including Monday 30 November 2026, followed by monthly collections in December 2026, January 2027, and February 2027

To check your collection day, visit our .

Where do I place the sticker?

Please affix the sticker to the front of your brown bin using the instructions enclosed in the subscription pack.

Last year I subscribed for multiple bins but this year I only want one bin; how do I know which sticker/bin to put out?

As we will be sending out new yellow stickers for the 2026/2027 subscription period, only brown bins with the new stickers will be collected.

What if I subscribe and my brown bin or subscription sticker is stolen?

Please check with your neighbours to make sure they have not taken your brown bin by mistake.

The stickers are made with a high-level adhesive, which are weatherproof. Once set, they are difficult to remove.

We would encourage you to mark your brown bin with your house number or address to make your bin clearly identifiable. It is the responsibility of the householder to ensure their brown bin/s are safely stored. In the event of a missing bin, there will be a charge of £30 for a replacement bin (i.e. the cost of the bin).

What if my sticker is damaged / missing?

The brown bin is your responsibility, and you must ensure that your sticker remains clearly visible. However, if it is damaged/missing, please contact us and an officer will check your details on our system and, if necessary, make a site visit.

A resident has more than one bin and sticker

If a resident has paid for more than one bin to be emptied, then each bin will receive a new sticker with individual serial numbers for each bin.

What if I want to request a refund?

Please use the refund application form to request a refund on your 2026 payment clearly stating the reason for the refund. The form will guide you through the information we need to assess a refund request. Once assessed you will be notified of the outcome within 10 working days.

Why have you changed to yellow stickers?

Customers who subscribed in 2023, 2024, or 2025 will have received a white RFID sticker. We will no longer be using RFID technology, as the service is moving toward newer and more efficient systems. Because of this change, the existing RFID stickers will no longer function from the start of the 2026 collection period on Monday 2nd March.

For the beginning of the 2026/2027 subscription period, households will receive a yellow sticker. This sticker is a temporary measure and will act as proof of payment while we transition to our updated technology. Further details about the new system will be shared once it is introduced.

What is the QR code for?

The QR (Quick Response) code, which you can scan with your mobile phone will take you directly to the 天涯社区 website where you can or find out more information about our waste and recycling services.

Will the sticker hold any personal information?

No, the sticker will not hold any personal information. It will hold a unique reference number (as per the current tag or old sticker), which can be cross referenced to the property address on the back-office database.
